A little more about me - just in case you give a flip
  • Education background
    • Way back when, attended El Paso High School but graduated from Sandia High in Albuquerque.
    • Attended University of New Mexico but graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico with a BBA in Marketing.
    • Completed a Master's Degree in Human Resource Management from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
    • Capped things off with a Doctor of Business Administration focusing on management from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
  • Research interests
    • Primary research in management strategy and human resource management.
    • Article topics include: employee turnover, leadership, empowerment by management, illegal aliens at work, and vision statements.

  • Where I've labored and toiled
    • Very early on, did some market research for a home builder. Later, worked as an Operations Manger for Bank of America in several Southern California towns. Then, moved to Bank of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
    • Became an Air Force officer and flew B-52 and B-1B bombers for many years. Managed several operations planning organiziations and was a base IG (complaints & inspections).
      • Primarily stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington; Castle AFB in Merced, California; and Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas.
      • I have the distinction of being the first person to eject from a B-1B bomber - crashed in Colorado.
      • Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
    • Next, a career change working as a Personnel Manager with Lowe's Home Improvement stores. Later worked for West Texas Centers as Director of Human Resources. Those were like light and day!
    • Owned and operated a rental company in Abilene with 25 single family homes and multi-units. This was interesting and taught me to think like an entrepreneur.
    • Taught management courses for Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas and became an Assistant Professor. 
    • Moved to University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa. A whole new level of professionalism from both faculty and students.
    • Can't wait to see what is next.
  • When not at UTPB
    • We have a son in Bryan, Texas who is a Cobol programmer - that's deep stuff. Another son is a student at Blinn College.
    • I'm still married to my first wife of 35 years.
    • Really enjoy golf - handicap is 15 but working on that. We have a hunting lease near Bronte with deer and turkey. Been lucky every year so far.
    • We also spend time at our summer home on beautiful Lake Brownwood which makes a great retreat from real life - so to speak.
